A 45-year old health worker, Subha Mog, was assaulted by two persons while health worker was urging people of a village to get Covid Vaccine jab. However, administration took prompt action after receiving the complaint and arrested the duo within a short time. The incident took place at a tea stall at Kanthalbagan ADC village under Santirbazar in South Tripura district on Monday.

It is learned, a team of health workers of Devipur Village sub-centre of Birchandranagar Health Centre went to Kanthalbagan ADC village and started vaccination drive in an Anganwadi Centre of the village.

Meanwhile, Sudha Mog went to nearby tea stall where some villagers were sitting and urged them to get Covid vaccines. In the meantime, one Parendra Reang who claimed to be a teacher by profession got involved in a heated argument with Mog.

Soon Reang became furious and opined that Vaccines were not good and he was presenting ill conceived and false information relating to Covid Vaccines. Mog was trying to make Reang understand – but the altercation took an ugly turn after Parendra and his son started physically assaulting Mog.

“Reang was opposing the vaccination drive at the ADC village and he started an ‘anti-vaccine’ campaign to dissuade people from getting Covid vaccines. As the altercation became tensed, Reang and his son attacked Mog. In the attack, Mog sustained injuries”, locals said.

Later the injured health worker was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent treatment.

Meanwhile an FIR was registered with the police station against ParendraReang and his son. The incident was also reported to the state’s health department. Administration took the matter seriously. Based on the complaint, Police swung into action and arrested both the accused, OC of Santirbazar PS Subrata Chakraborty said.
