A consignment of Tripura grown jackfruit and scented lemon has been exported to Germany on Wednesday ushering a new dawn for Horti growers. Notably, on earlier occasions, jackfruits of the State were sent to United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.
Tripura is gradually emerging as a hub for Horti fruit export. After successful branding of Tripura grown pineapples in domestic and international markets, export of pineapples started and continuing even during Covid pandemic. Scented lemon and jackfruits are the latest inclusion in the export list. With increasing basket of exports, a new avenue of earnings has been opened for Horti product growers of the State paving way for attaining self reliance.
Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation- Dr. Phanibhusan Jamatia has flagged off the consignment of jackfruit and scented lemon in Agartala.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Jamatia said that earlier this year three consignments of jackfruit had been sent to the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. Apart from this, several batches of queen pineapples were also exported outside Tripura as well as the country.
This was the first consignment of jackfruit exported to Germany from Tripura, the Director said.
“The initiative is not only increasing the farmers’ income but also giving an identity to the state’s fruits in national and international markets,” Dr. Jamatia told the media.
Tripura Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy in a Facebook post congratulated the farmers as well as the officials working in this process.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for their tireless efforts for farmers’ welfare in the state.
Marketed by Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), the consignment was supplied to Guwahati based exporter- M/s Kundalini International in collaboration with Hillstop Horti Producer Company Ltd., Krishi Sanyoga Agro Producer Company Ltd., Longtarai Valley Agro Producer Company Ltd., and Jirania Farmers Producer Company Ltd, an official said.
