In an attempt to improve higher education system and fill up vacant posts, BJP led Tripura Government has decided to recruit Principals in Degree Colleges and five Diploma-level Technical Institutions. Notably, only two colleges have regular Principals and no recruitment initiative was taken since 2014.
To this end, the council of ministers has on Tuesday approved recruitment of Principals for twenty general Degree Colleges and five Diploma-level Technical Institutions.
Cabinet spokesperson and Education minister Ratanlal Nath has made this announcement at a press conference after the cabinet meeting. He said the cabinet has also approved the amendment of the recruitment rules.
“There are 20 Government Degree Colleges in the state. Among them, only two Degree Colleges are functioning with regular Principals. The recruitment for Principals in the twenty colleges will be done through TPSC with the amended recruitment rules,” Nath told the media, adding that there was no recruitment of Principals since 2014.
As per the UGC guidelines, Nath said, the Principals would be recruited for five years and the extension would depend on their performance. He also stated that direct recruitment in 100 percent posts of the Principals would now be conducted according to the amended rules.
The Assistant or Associate Professors having work experience of 15 years would get the chance while Ph.D, publication, research and experience in organizing seminars would also be counted, he said, adding that the salary of the Principals would be Rs. 1,44,200.
