Tripura Police arrested three more persons on Wednesday in connection with mob lynching at Kalyanpur on June 20. Earlier three persons were arrested in this connection. So far, Police arrested a total of six persons for their alleged involvement in the mob lynching case.
Among the three accused, two persons were identified as Rabindra Debbarma (32) of Dewan Sardar Para under Kalyanpur Police Station and Amrit Debbarma (33) of the same village. The 3rd accused today was identified as Ashwini Debbarma (57) of Basanta Para under Mungiakami Police Station.
A mob lynched three people on suspicion of cattle theft in the early hours on June 20 near North Maharanipur village in Kalyanpur.
Those killed were identified as Jayed Hossain (30), Billal Miah (28) and Saiful Islam (18), all residents of Sonamura subdivision in the Sepahijala district.
Relatives of the deceased persons visited the Kalyanpur Police Station after the incident and urged the concerned Police Officials to take action against the people involved in lynching the three youths – who, according to the family members were not associated with cattle theft. Family members claimed that the victims were engaged in buying and selling of different goods from one place to another.
Based on the complaint, Kalyanpur Police started investigation and netted three accused persons on earlier occasion. During the interrogation of the accused, Police recovered the missing body of the third victim in mob lynching from a jungle.
On Wednesday, Police arrested three more. Subranshu Bhattacharya, the second officer of Kalyanpur police station said that acting on a tip off the police managed to arrest them.
