Agartala, November 14, 2019: Miscreants prevented Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar and other CPI-M MLAs from visiting fire-damaged Party office at Machima Bazar under Dhanpur Assembly segment today. In a statement CPI-M State secretariat condemned the incident and alleged, some youths led by Yuva Morcha District president Prasenjit Ghosh blocked the Machima Bazar bound road and raised ‘Manik Sarkar go back’ slogan. Apart from Sarkar, the delegation included other CPI-M MLAs – Tapan Chakraborty, Ratan Bhowmik, Sudhan Das, Narayan Chowdhury and Shyamal Chakraborty.
“In the wake of protest and slogans, CPI-M delegates abandoned the programme to visit the affected Party Office and returned”, the statement read and added, “BJP backed goons set Party Office ablaze at Machima Bazar on November 12 last. And the CPI-M delegation team was scheduled to visit the damaged Party Office today.
Condemning the incident, CPI-M State unit also said, “Manik Sarkar is an elected MLA from Dhanpur – he was being prevented from entering his constituency. Ironically, Police had not taken any step against the miscreants aligning with BJP. The incident aptly demonstrates that there is no rule of law in the State”.
Our Sonamura correspondent adds: Yuva Morcha leaders denied the allegation that Morcha supporters prevented Manik Sarkar and others from entering Machima Bazar. Morcha leaders claimed common people vented their anger against Sarkar and his party on Rose Valley issue. “A section of CPI-M leaders were hugely benefitted from Rose Valley chit which robbed common people and fled away. It was common people – not any BJP or Yuva Morcha activists – who raised ‘Manik Sarkar go back slogan’ and blocked the road to Machima Bazar”, Yuva Morcha leaders said.
