May 18, 2018: After reports of plastic egg and plastic rice, it’s time for plastic atta – what an era it is, exclaimed one elderly resident of Dharmanagar in Tripura Tripura today.
In a bizarre incidence of alleged food adulteration, an employee of North District Police office fell victim and reportedly purchased one packet of Atta which – to his utter shock – turned into hard substance after pouring water.
It is alleged, one Suman Saha purchased a packet of Atta on Thursday night from a local shop. However, when he was preparing roti, he found the atta turned into small pieces. “It was broken into pieces like a rubber or plastic material”, Suman Saha alleged. He purchased the Atta packet from local a shop of a small time businessman –Shyamal.
When Shyamal was confronted, he expressed his ignorance and told that he had purchased atta packets from Modern Flour Mill located at Halflong in Dharmanagar.
Later Suman Saha along with media met Chief Medical Officer Dr Shankar Das today. After a careful observation, Dr Das expressed serious concern and rushed to Shyamal’s shop. Dr Das immediately seized the sack of Atta and sealed the sack. He suggested Saha to report to Food Security Officer Bishnu Pada Jamatia. However, Jamatia was out of the Station as he was undergoing training in Imphal.
Meanwhile, preparations have been initiated to send the sample of the Atta to RFL testing lab. However, Modern Flour Mill authority said that there was complain against their products.
Local people alleged, unscrupulous businessmen are taking advantage of shortage of Food Security Officer. Jamatia is the only such Officer for three districts and he is always over burden – this paves way for dishonest local and business of neighbouring states”, alleged a person.
