July 12, 2018: Ganja traders in Tripura are always coming up with innovative packaging and storage procedures to evade Police attention.
However, concerted efforts of the Tripura Police, BSF, GRP and Intelligence Agencies have proved to be smarter than the ganja traders’ ploy.
While modern technology is used for packaging, Police have found today well camouflaged ‘ganja storeroom’ under a bridge.
Based on secret information, security agencies recovered huge quantity of ganja (Cannabis) from Agartala Rail Station, Jirania and Melaghar area in Tripura today. Till the last report, total three persons were arrested.
Acting on a tip off, security personnel recovered around 200 kg ganja from two passengers of Tripura Sundari Express at Agartala Station today. Sources said, ganja was kept in more than 100 packets. Police sources said, a joint team of police personnel of Amtali police station, Special Branch (SB), Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained two youths of Vaishali district of Bihar from an AC compartment of Tripura Sundari express.
Police conducted two separate raids and found ganja of worth several lakhs kept in bags. Sources said, around 200 kg ganja was recovered. Arrested persons were identified as Lalindra Kumar alias Dharmendra of Vaishali District, Bihar and Suresh Ray of same district of Bihar state.
Experts said, ganja traders are increasingly taking rail routes to ferry ganja from out of the State after expansion of rail services. The efficiency and professionalism in ferrying ganja clearly indicate that an well oiled machinery is involved ganja racket and the racket thrived over time.
Structured and well planned sustained actions by State Police along with GRP, BSF and intelligence agencies can only rein in the ganja transportation. Shrewdness and adoption of innovative steps to conceal ganja from Security personnel was exposed today after Police found a secret storeroom under a bridge at Jirania.
Sources said, ganja traders made a storeroom for ganja at a bridge in Jirania area to evade Police attention. However, Police proved to be smarter than innovative ganja traders. Today Police personnel led by the SDPO of Jirania recovered total 192 packets of ganja from the ‘Storeroom’. Police sources said, total 192 packets – each of 10-15 kg weight – was uncovered from under a bridge at Jirania. Police sources said, storing ganja under a bridge is truly unexpected. No one is arrested so far in this case. Estimated market value of seized ganja is likely to be more than Rs 50 lakh. Melaghar Police also recovered 669 kg ganja of worth more than Rs 10 lakh and arrested one Abdul Rahim.
