March 12, 2018: Buoyed after getting directives of new Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Police personnel are deterimined to tame the post-poll violence as early as possible. In a drive to combat post-poll violence Police have arrested 10 more miscreants and in total 35 persons were arrested since March 3 – after poll results were declared. Interacting with media today DGP AK Shukla said this in Agartala.
Notably, Biplab Deb made several goodwill gesture to diffuse the tension and panic created after results were out on March 3. Experts believed that his goodwill gestures – even before he took oath as CM, helped to rein the BJP activists in a large extent.
As part his of benevolence, Deb visited the former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and touched his feet seeking blessings. Moreover, in an attempt to quell growing tension, Deb also appealed to BJP supporters to maintain peace as many of the CPM supporters had voted for BJP candidates. Apart from such goodwill gestures and appeals, Deb also met the Police administration.
Immediately after assuming the Office, the Chief Minister Biplab Deb has ordered the Police to clamp down on miscreants without considering political affiliation. He said, “Biplab directed the Police to initiate stern actions against trouble-makers. Police have been given a free-hand to deal with post-poll violence and miscreants,” Shukla said.
Focusing on Police initiatives, he said that Police had intensified drives against miscreants. “If anyone attempts to violate laws, Police will arrest him immediately and take punitive actions. All the SPs have been directed today through a video conferencing to act tough against wrong-doers”, Shukla said.
Sounding caution on lethargy by Police personnel, DGP Shukla said, if any Police personnel were found to be linked to violence and wrong-doings, the concerned personnel would also not be spared. Moreover, lethargic attitude by any Police personnel – especially in case of raids – will also be dealt in proper manner, he cautioned.
Commenting on two alleged murders committed on Sunday in Agartala, AK Shukla said, one Manik Bhowmik was found under Amtali PS and Police was successful in arresting two persons – the wife of the deceased, Khalon Bhowmik and her paramount Krishna Das. The arrested persons were produced at the Court today. Another dead body was found under Bodhjung PS and Police is investigating the case to arrest the culprits associated with the murder.
