Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday called a 12 hours pan Tripura strike on September 21 next protesting against the alleged misrule and lapses in Covid 19 management. It was pertinent to mention that a similar strike was called by Birajit Sinha which was scheduled on September 08 but was called off followed by a denial from the TPCC president Pijush Biswas.
Speaking to reporters, PCC President Pijush Kanti Biswas said that during a meeting with all the senior leaders that held in presence of All India Congress Committee secretary Bhupen Bora, the party has decided to call 12-hours state-wide bandh on September 21 next.
The party would put forth a 19 point charter of demand. The party expressing concerns on the present situation, felt that the 2 and half years regime of the government had left people in extremely suffocating situation with a threat on freedom of speech.
A meeting of the PCC was held today in Congress Bhawan under the leadership of AICC secretary Bhupen Borah who arrived here yesterday and discussed the political situation in the state threadbare. All senior leaders of the party including, Pijush Kanti Biswas, Subal Bhowmik, Gopal Roy and Birajit Sinha, attended the meeting.
“After the BJP government formed in the state there is no free speech, no one can raise voice against the government. The BJP is gagging the democracy. A government can’t run in such a way. We know in this COVID-19 situation poor people are facing many issues but we had to call this bandh against the government’s mismanagement”,
Pijush said. during the Corona pandemic, the state government has failed miserably and also completely failed to provide health services to the people of the state. The government failed to take necessary steps.
“After the Lok Sabha poll, the BJP backed goons carried out a series of attacks on our party leaders including Birajit Sinha, Gopal Chandra Roy, and many more. Even during the donation programme also they attacked our party workers, supporters and vandalized our party offices. Protesting such steps of the BJP government we have decided to call a 12-hour state-wide strike on September 21 next”, Pijush Biswas said.
The party has also demanded Rs 10 lakh and better services to the family of the deceased due to COVID-19, to give an alternative job to 10, 323 teachers and compensation for people living on the Indo-Bangladesh border. “People are afraid to visit GB Pant hospital. Dead bodies are lying here and there. Without treatment people are dying. The government should take steps. If these demands are not fulfilled then in the coming days we shall call for a massive protest. We are working for people unitedly and together”, Biswas added
