Agitating students were demanding to defer the exam and hold it after Puja vacation. As the situation turned tensed, Police including women security personnel rushed to the College.
“Without any prior notice, in-charge Principal announced schedule of exams to begin from September 25. As regular classes could not be conducted due to several problems, we were, earlier, told that exams would be conducted after puja – now, within a short notice, how can we prepare for exams?”, agitating said in chorus.
They also alleged, regular classes were not held – only few classes were taken in current academic year leaving us out of place for appearing in exams. Principal Soma Datta said, the exam schedule was announced as per the guidelines of the Tripura University and the schedule can be changed only if University gives its nod.
“According to University guidelines, we have to complete holding examinations and filling up necessary Forms within October 31. Puja vacation in college will start from October 5 and remain closed till October 20 next within which all the procedures including Form fill up cannot be completed in stipulated time – October 31”, said Datta.
She also said, college authority has to power to defer exam schedule. However, she agreed that regular classes were disturbed at the beginning due to complexities in appointing guest lecturers. Soma Datta categorically said, “Exams can only be deferred if University gives permission – otherwise, there is no way to defer it”.
Meanwhile, students are adamant in their demand. After several rounds of discussions, students withdrew gherao agitation, but threatened to boycott exams and to call for strike tomorrow.
