A group of students held a sit-in demonstration at the premises of Satsang Vihar in Kanchanpur today demanding withdrawal of a case against their private tutor, Ramakanta Nath. The agitating students alleged Ramakanta Nath was falsely implicated in a case relating to a case of assault on members of Sad Bhabna Manch recently.
Students said, a case was filed on August 12 last against members of Nagarik Surakkha Manch for unleashing attacks on members of Sad Bhabna Manch and accordingly, Police booked cases against 31 persons. Out of them, Police arrested 20 persons. One of the accused in the case was a private tutor – Ramakanta Nath who hails from Kanchanpur.
Ramakanta Nath also claimed that the case filed against him was false and baseless. Meanwhile, the arrested persons obtained bails till August 31.
Recently Sad Bhabna Mancha had held a meeting in Dasda about ensuring peace among different communities of Kanchanpur sub division. Nagarik Surakkha Mancha allegedly attacked members present in the meeting. However, Nagarik Manch leaders vehemently denied the allegations.
It is worth mentioning that Nagarik Surakkha Manch and Mizo Convention Tripura are opposing resettlement plans for Bru community in Kanchanpur sub-division due to multiple allegations against the Bru Reang refugees. Particularly, alleged involvement of Brus during anti-CAA agitation in December last year and reported arson and vandalism by them have caused serious reservations against Bru people in Dasda and surrounding areas.
However, as per a multi-cornered meeting involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, it was decided that Brus would be considered citizens of Tripura and they would be rehabilitated in different areas in the State. Nagarik Manch and Tripura Mizo convention have been agitating against the rehabilitation of the Brus – and this fomented communal sentiments in the area, local sources alleged.
In view of the emerging situation, Sabbhabhana Manch is trying to diffuse the communal tension and ensure peace, sources said.
