A student of class X of BBI, Dharmanagar, with an innocent but confident gesture, announced his ‘enviable’ achievement in an online exam conducted by one “World Science Technology and Mathematical Society” before media on August 18 last. He presented couple of documents supporting his tall claims.
Instantly, his press conference went viral and media houses of the State proudly published the news of his success – so also enewstime.in.
All were good until a section of people started raising doubts about authenticity of documents. Some media alleged that all the documents were fabricated and doctored.
As the voice calling the published report as ‘fake’ gained momentum in social media as well, enewstime.in contacted with the reporter who wrote the news item. Also daylong inquiries ensued during which enewstime.in team led by its Editor talked to North District Education Office, Head Master of BBI, Police and other sources.
Officials of the DEO clearly mentioned that they got the news from media and there was no official confirmation or denial of the claim. When contacted, BBI Head Master Sasanka Sekhar Das said, it is true that the boy had registered his name for an essay competition announced by ISRO.
“But, I have not received any document supporting boy’s claim, so far from concerned authority”, Das said. In this connection, he also said that the student showed him some documents declaring his ‘excellent’ result and those documents contained the name “World Science Technology and Mathematical Society”.
Ultimately, enewstime.in talked to one person named Dibarkar who claimed to the boy’s relative. Dibarkar without showing any sign of nervousness claimed that they had received the documents from the Society but “to our utter dismay, we have found that World Science Technology and Mathematical Society website is no longer available”. He also claimed that they – the family members of the boy – were clueless as to what actually happened.
In view of the entire episode, media have smelt a rat. It seems that some kind of deep rooted conspiracy was hatched by some unscrupulous elements. Police action is being contemplated.
It is important that the administration take suitable steps to ascertain truth behind incident as a huge confusion regarding the motive behind such a nasty ploy of a student. Notably, this is not a ‘fake’ news promoted through ‘fake’ social account – but here the boy, Dipanjan Nag, is well identified and made statement before media.
However, we are regretting for this reported ‘fake’ news.
