In an attempt to improve power infrastructure in the state, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) announced plans to lay underground power lines in various parts of Tripura, including the capital city, Agartala.
The ambitious project, estimated to cost a whopping Rs 2000 crore, will also cover key areas like Dharmanagar in North District, Udaipur in Gomati, and ADC Sadar Kumulung in the West District of Tripura. The newly appointed TSECL Managing Director, Biswajit Basu, revealed the plans at a press conference in Agartala on Wednesday.
“We are committed to providing reliable and uninterrupted power supply to our consumers,” Basu said. “Laying underground power lines will not only enhance the aesthetics of our city and towns but also reduce power outages caused by storms, accidents, and other external factors.”
The corporation is currently in the process of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project. Once finalized, the TSECL will initiate the tendering process and commence work on the ground.
To further bolster the state’s power distribution network, the TSECL has also taken steps based on recommendations made by Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
The Power Minister, during a recent meeting with TSECL officials, outlined several measures to improve the efficiency of the power supply system.
In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festival, the TSECL has scheduled pre-Puja repair work to begin in the first week of the next month. The corporation aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the festive season.
Addressing the growing electricity demand in the state, Basu informed the media that Tripura is also supplying power to neighboring Bangladesh. The TSECL is working on strengthening its connection systems and developing user-friendly mobile applications to improve customer service and engagement.
Notably, Tripura’s existing overhead transmission lines are vulnerable to storms and rain. Agartala and other parts of the State often plunge into darkness after a spell of rain or storms. Given the emerging situation, the underground power line project is expected to reduce power outages and disruptions.
