Agartala, November 20, 2019: Tripura Government has decided to elevate status of tribal Autonomous governance system – Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) into Tripura Territorial Council (TTC). The decision was taken in a recent Cabinet meeting, said State Tribal Welfare Minister Mebar Kumar Jamatia in Agartala today. He also said that the decision was taken after a letter in this connection from the Union Home Ministry was received.
Mebar Kumar Jamatia said, the decision and recommendation of the State Government will be sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee which in turn, will send it to Home Ministry for placing necessary amendment bill in the Parliament. He expressed hope that the amendment bills would be placed in on-going winter session of the Parliament.
“In a recent cabinet meeting, the BJP-IPFT government has decided that TTAADC would be changed into Tripura Territorial Council – in addition to increasing number of departments under it and changing existing governance system to three tier panchayat system”, Jamatia told media. The decision will pave way to provide more autonomy and financial grants to Territorial Council.
The Minister also said, along with elevation of the status of TTAADC, the State government has also decided to augment strength of the Council from existing 30 to 50 including two nominated candidates.
Moreover, number of departments under it will be enhanced from 17 to 43 departments, Jamatia said and added that existing self governance system would be changed in line with three-tier Panchayati Raj System for harnessing capacity of the Council.
It may be noted here that upgradation of TTAADC was one of the major pre-poll promises of BJP – and the decision fulfilled the promise which will bear long-term positive implications in uplifting socio-politico-economic conditions of Indigenous communities of the State.
