June 19, 2018: Miscreants seriously assaulted one scribe in Dharmanagar under North District last night while another group of miscreants hackled another journalist in Jolaibari under South Tripura district.
Police Sources said, Suman Debnath – associated with an Agartala-based electronic channel and print media was returning from Churaibari to Dharmanagar and near the Railgate in Dharmanagar, one Simin Ahmed of Rajbari area requested Suman to have a chat with him in Simin’s shop. After a while, Simin Ahmed picked up knife and attempted to silt throat of Suman. However, Suman survived attempt on his life and raised alarm. Local people and later Police rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, Simin fled from the spot keeping his shop wide open. Suman was taken to Hospital with injuries and is undergoing treatment. Presently his condition is stated to stable.
Police sources said, one Mihir Deb of East Batarsi area under Dharmanagar assisted Simin in executing the murder attempt. Police raided several areas immediately and arrested Mihir Deb. However principal accused Simin is still at large and Police is hopeful to nab him soon, said SI Ratan Rabi Das.
In a separate incident, Biplab Baidya of Aajkaal Patrika was reportedly assaulted by some miscreants last night. Local people alleged connection of BJP supporters in the assault. However, details of the assault are yet to be confirmed.
