January 16, 2018: The Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla today announced implementation of a new central scheme in two districts of Poll bound Tripura. He said that two districts of Tripura would be brought under the ambit of “Vayashree” Yojana. Addressing a programme in Kumarghat under Unakoti district, Sampla said this. Specially designed for elderly people, the Vayashree Yojana is a Central project which, initially, launched in two districts of every State in the country, he said.
Earlier, the Union Minister arrived today in Agartala and held a press conference. He hit out at the CPIM-led State Government for alleged deteriorating law and order situation and poor quality of basic amenities.
He said, social crimes, particularly atrocities and crime against women is increasing in the State and conviction rate is poor in Tripura. The conviction rate is alarmingly lower in comparison with national scenario – rate of conviction in Tripura stands at 15 per cent against the national average of 41.5 per cent.
Later the Minister visited GB Hospital in Agartala and allegedly found no ‘on duty’ doctors were present. “What the Minister had witnessed, was not new to us – patients frequently suffer due to either absence or shortage of doctors”, alleged one patient.
After leaving the Hospital, Sampla went to Kumarghat to attend a programme in which he distributed supportive equipments to Divyanga people of worth Rs one crore four lakh. Speaking on the occasion, Sampla announced that elders of Unakoti and Dhalai districts would now be able to receive benefits under “Vayashree’ Yojana. He expressed hope that the Yojana will benefit the elders of Unakoti and Dhalai districts.
