April 02, 2018: Enthusiastic people of all ages queued up along the both sides of the road patiently – they were waiting for arrival of the Chief Minister and inauguration of uniquely designed and planned Agartala Book Fair -2018.
In the grand style the 12-day long 36th Agartala Book Fair started today in Agartala and amid glittering lighting, electrifying dance and song performances of young artists – Biplab Deb captured all the attention once again. As he emerged from his car, he witnessed wonderful road paintings done mainly by the Art College students – as he strode forward, kids welcomed him with dance. Then he moved forward towards the stage.

A huge and gorgeous stage was erected for inauguration programme – both the design and lighting created a web of joy and celebration. The Governor Tathagata Roy formally inaugurated the Book Fair after wonderful rendition of songs and traditional acrobatic Hazagari Dance. The Governor inaugurated the Book Fair by lightening up ‘Holy Lamp’ in presence of the Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Dy CM Jishnu Debbarma, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, eminent writer of West Bengal Tilottama Majumder and other distinguished persons.
In his inaugural speech, Tathagata Roy elaborately focused upon several aspects of Book Fair, Rabindranath Tagore and his association with the Tripura Royal family in details.

Speaking on the occasion, Biplab Deb, emphasized on developing reading habits. “Share a good book among your friends to spread the knowledge and motivate excellence in all spheres of the society,” Deb said.
He expressed his concern over ‘adda’ culture and urged people to assemble at library during free time and spend quality time with good books. “The book fair is not only fair for book selling, but it’s a fair of mutual brotherhood and a bond to strengthen the relationships of human being”, said Chief Minister adding that the Agartala Book Fair should reach in every district and subdivisions of the state to promote reading habits.
