April 06, 2018: The Association of Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC) of Tripura University has successfully completed its first day of the Relay Hunger Strike against UGC’s March 5, 2018 circular to implement reservation taking Department as a unit replacing the earlier method of treating the University as a unit. The secretary of the Association, Dr.Nishikant Kolge said this today in Agartala in a press release.
He also said, this shifting of the roster to the department and limiting it to the respective cadre as the order proposes will diminish the number of reserved seats significantly and the chance of candidates from these categories to occupy these positions will be prolonged. This will be a blow not only to the access of these communities to the corridors of knowledge but also to the process of democratization in higher education which remains a goal that the country is still striving for.
In today’s agitation, Dr.Bipin Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Dr.Ashutosh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology and Sri. Ray Sahab Pal, Research Scholar, Hindi Department observed the fast between 10: 00 AM to 5:00 PM.
