IMD has predicted more rain with reduced intensity gradually in its 7-day period Tripura Weather forecast bulletin.

Agartala (Tripura), June 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala, has issued a weather warning for Tripura, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next five days across several districts.

The alert highlights the potential for significant disruption due to urban flooding, landslides, traffic blockages, and agricultural losses.

Forecast Overview (June 1–7, 2025)

According to the seven-day district-wise forecast issued by IMD Agartala, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are very likely to occur across the state, with heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) expected in localized areas. Isolated very heavy rainfall (11–20 cm) is likely over North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, and West Tripura on June 1.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds (40–50 kmph) are also anticipated in these areas.

The rainfall intensity is expected to gradually reduce from June 3 onwards, with showers likely to occur at fewer places by June 6 and 7. No significant change in maximum temperature is predicted during the forecast period.

District-Wise Impact and Suggested Actions

Urban Flooding and Power Disruption:

Heavy downpours could cause flooding and waterlogging in urban areas such as:

* Dharmanagar (North Tripura)
* Kailashahar and Kumarghat (Unakoti)
* Ambassa and Kamalpur (Dhalai)
* Khowai town
* Agartala, Chandrapur, and Sadar (West Tripura)

Authorities have been advised to prepare emergency services, reinforce infrastructure, and set up temporary shelters.

Traffic Disruptions:

Major roads, including NH-08 and NH-208A, are at risk of blockages due to landslides and flooding. Specific vulnerable stretches include:

* NH-08 in North Tripura, Dhalai, and West Tripura
* Roads in Khowai, Ambassa, and Agartala

The IMD has recommended deploying road maintenance crews, real-time traffic updates, and alternate routes to ensure critical connectivity.

Tourism Impact:

Several tourist spots may face accessibility issues and damage. Affected locations include:

* Jampui Hills and Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary (North Tripura)
* Unakoti and Tirupati Balaji Temple
* Longtharai Temple, Dumboor Lake (Dhalai)
* Baromura Eco Park (Khowai)
* Durga Bari Temple, Benuban Bihar Buddha Mandir (West Tripura)

Local administrations are urged to temporarily close sites to prevent accidents and guide tourists toward safer alternatives.

Low-Lying Area Flooding and Evacuation:

Significant flooding is likely in vulnerable low-lying regions such as:

* Dhalai: Ambassa, Kamalpur, Gonda Twisa
* Unakoti: Chandipur, Pecharthal, Gournagar
* North Tripura: Dhigalbank, Pratyekroy, Ichailacherra
* West Tripura: Reshambagan, Nabadoy Para, Vidyasagar Palli

Evacuation advisories, temporary shelters, and relief coordination with local authorities have been suggested.

Landslides and Infrastructure Damage:

Landslide-prone zones include:

* Ramnagar and Bilthai railway line (North Tripura)
* Longtharai Valley and Gonda Twisa (Dhalai)
* Teliamura (Khowai)

Stabilization efforts and temporary relocation of residents are recommended.

Impact on Agriculture:

Flooding may impact agricultural yield, especially in:

* North Tripura and Unakoti: Damage to chilly, cucumber, and seasonal vegetables.
* Dhalai: Moderate damage to jute and vegetables.
* Khowai and West Tripura: Moderate damage to vegetables and fruits.

Farmers are advised to adopt flood-resistant practices. Compensation and input distribution are suggested for affected cultivators.

As Tripura braces for a wet spell, residents, especially in northern and western districts, are urged to stay alert and follow advisories issued by the IMD and local authorities. Emergency services have been put on high alert, and precautionary measures are being rolled out to minimize damage and ensure public safety.
