Agartala, December 17, 2019: The BJP-led Tripura Government is mulling over constructing a War Museum of Bangladesh Civil War – the first of its king either in India or in Bangladesh. Veteran MLA Ashish Saha said on Monday while speaking at a programme in Agartala held to commemorate Vijay Diwas.
“Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is also interested in setting up such a museum – and earlier, the Chief Minister hinted that Museum could come out at the location of erstwhile Central Jail in Agartala”, Saha said and added that he had discussed about the issue with the Chief Minister.
Detailing about the plan, Saha said the Museum will display photographs relating to Bangladesh Civil War, weapons used in the war, memories of martyred soilders etc.
It may be noted, Vijay Diwas is observed in India to commemorate victory of Indian army over Pakistan in 1971 war to liberate Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) from Pakistan. The same day is observed in Bangladesh as Bijoy Dibos. On December 16, 1971, Pak army chief General AA Khan Niazi along with 93,000 Pak soldiers surrendered to allied force comprising Indian army and Mukti Bahini led by Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka.
