Tension gripped a bordering village in North Tripura late Monday night after villagers and BSF jawans got involved in pitched battle. Source said, panic and tension prevailed at Kadamtala’s Ichairaapar village in North Tripura located near the India Bangladesh borders after clashes broke out between the villagers and BSF personnel today.
While villagers blame the BSF jawans for abusing a middle aged woman, Police said that BSF in its complaints alleged that BSF came under the wrath of villagers when some of the villagers were trying to smuggle cattle to Bangladesh.
Local sources said, trouble started after allegations had been raised against BSF of abusing a woman on late Monday night. The clashes led both the parties–villagers and BSF to lodged FIRs and counter FIRs at Kadamtala police station.
Sources said, a 40-year old woman was allegedly groped by a BSF Jawan when she was returning from the lavatory on Monday night. As the woman screamed for help, other family members rushed out and tried to retaliate.
But, the alleged victim’s relatives were reportedly thrashed and beaten up by the concerned BSF jawans and his team members.
“As the relatives of alleged victim tried to retaliate, the accused BSF along with his other members seriously beaten up the victim’s relatives and all the family members sustained injuries in the process”, local people alleged.
As soon as the news spread, a team of police from Kadamtala police station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. All of them were sent to Kadamtala village hospital for treatment and later referred to Dharmanagar district hospital.
Sources in the police department said, the BSF, in their complaint, alleged that the entire incident of abusing a woman was fabricated. The fact was that all of those villagers were trying to smuggle cattle beyond the border fence. However, no specific statement was released from the part of BSF authorities.
Notably, cattle lifting and cattle smuggling in several bordering villages are rampant.
