Agartala, May 21, 2025: In another proud moment for Tripura, the West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat, under the Jirania Rural Development Block, has been conferred with the National Award for e-Governance for the year 2024-25. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen technology-driven governance at the grassroots level.
Silver Medal for Grassroots Innovation in Service Delivery
The West Majlishpur GP has earned the prestigious Silver Award in the category titled ‘Grassroots-level Initiatives for Deepening and Widening of Service Delivery’ under the National Awards for e-Governance Scheme 2024-25.
The category is specifically designed to honor innovative efforts by Gram Panchayats and similar traditional local governance bodies that are using technology to enhance public service access.
The recognition emphasizes the Gram Panchayat’s outstanding contribution in leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to deliver essential public services efficiently and to resolve citizen grievances effectively.
Purpose and Scope of the Award
The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), operating under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPPGP), administers the award scheme to spotlight impactful e-Governance models across India. The goal is to:
- Acknowledge excellence in implementing e-Governance initiatives
- Promote sustainable digital innovation at the grassroots level
- Facilitate knowledge exchange and replication of successful governance strategies
- Encourage problem-solving and risk mitigation in public service delivery
These national awards have been conferred annually since 2003, recognizing outstanding contributions from Central and State Government bodies, PSUs, academic institutions, and local self-governments.
Award Ceremony in Visakhapatnam on June 9–10
The official award presentation is scheduled during the National Conference on e-Governance, to be held in Visakhapatnam on June 9 and 10, 2025. During the event, West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat will be honored with a medal, a certificate of excellence, and a cash incentive of Rs 5 lakh. This prize aims to further support the implementation of innovative public welfare projects and close existing service delivery gaps.
CM Dr Manik Saha Commends Grassroots Excellence
Reacting to the achievement, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha extended heartfelt congratulations to the people and officials of West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat. In a post on social media, he stated that the award reflects Tripura’s dedication to fostering transparent, efficient, and technology-enabled governance mechanisms at the village level.

Dr Saha also recalled Tripura’s consistent performance in past years, mentioning that the state had secured as many as seven national awards last year for excellence in the Panchayati Raj system, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.

Notably, West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat falls within the assembly constituency of State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, further highlighting the region’s growing administrative and developmental importance.
