November 01, 2017: In Uttar Pradesh, 16 persons were killed and about 100 others injured at Firoz Gandhi Thermal Power Plant Unchahar of NTPC in Raebareli district following a blast in an under trial power production unit this evening.
Principal Secretary Home of the State Arvind Kumar said, relief and rescue operation is in full swing. He said, a team of NDRF consisting 32 rescuers has reached Unchahar from Lucknow to conduct relief and rescue operation.
Sub Divisional Magistrate of Unchahar said, several injured are in serious condition and they are being shifted to Allahabad Medical college, KGMC and other hospitals in Lucknow.
He said, injured are also admitted to local PSC, district hospital and private hospitals in Raebareli.
The SDM said that death toll may increase as condition of some injured is very critical. Responding a question, he said, cause of the blast is yet not known and it is a matter of probe. He said, security forces have been deployed in and around of the plant and large number of ambulances have been pressed into operation to shift injured to hospitals. Senior civil and police officers are on the spot to monitor rescue and relief operations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced financial assistance to the next kin of deceased and injured. He announced that 2 lakhs rupees will be given to family of each deceased, 50 thousand rupees to those who have received serious injuries and 25 thousand rupees to minor injured. He also said that free of cost treatment will be provided to the injured at SGPGI Lucknow.
AIR correspondent reports that, terming the incident as unfortunate NTPC administration has said that it has happened at 600 megawatt under trial production unit.
Rescue and relief operation is in full swing. A 32 member fully equipped team of NDRF has reached Unchahar from Lucknow and engaged in relief and rescue operation. Several injured in grievous condition have been referred to Allahabad medical college, KGMU Lucknow and other hospitals in Lucknow.

Ministry of Power said an enquiry has been set up by NTPC Management to investigate the reasons for the accident at NTPC, Unchahar in Uttar Pradesh. In a statement, the Power Ministry said, all possible measures are being taken to provide immediate relief to the families of affected people in close coordination with the district administration.
