108-feet Buddha statue – the highest such structure in the South East Asia- will be constructed in North Tripura. As part of this, Buddha “Dhatu” was brought in Tripura from Sri Lanka.

Agartala, December 09, 2019: The preparations of making 108-feet high Buddha statue at Nabin Chara under Pecharthal in North Tripura is progressing in war footing. The Buddha statue—which will be the highest such structure in the South East Asia, is expected to be a major boost for Tripura tourism. In a major development Buddha “Dhatu (In Buddhist beliefs materials remains of a holy person) ” has been brought to Pecharthal under North Tripura from Sr Lanka, one of the countries where Buddhism is practiced predominantly.
Recently, a team of Buddhist monks along with Sulekha Thay Kumbare, member National commission for Minority government of India visited the spot and met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Barma yesterday to assess the progress of the construction.

According to Kumabare, the meeting was fruitful and both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister assured her of all the help from the part of state government. According to the locals, this structure will enhance flow of tourist in the Pecharthal area which recently hit the headlines for discovery of a waterfall. It is also worthy to be mentioned here that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb himself named the falls as “Buddha falls”.
Later on, the delegation of Buddhist monks under the leadership of Kumabare also met Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. The tourism minister also learnt to have assured the delegation of all kind of departmental help. Today, the team visited the spot at Nabincherra Pecharthal in presence of Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Santana Chakma and other local legislatures.
The Minister, who is also the local MLA, had been asked to take necessary steps to make the area suitable for tourism. Speaking to the media persons, she has assured that community hall, roads and other important infrastructure would be built soon in the area.
