November 09, 2017: Centre today set up a seven-member committee headed by Environment Secretary CK Mishra to monitor the short-term and long-term solutions to air pollution. The committee will meet at regular intervals to draw up a plan and ensure enforcement.
Secretaries of Science and Technology and Biotechnology Department will be the members of the panel beside Delhi Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary Niti Aayog, Chairman of Central Pollution Control Board and representative of Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. Mr. Mishra today held a meeting in New Delhi and discussed the situation arising out of air pollution in Delhi and adjoining areas.
It was decided to request concerned state governments to fully implement the Graded Response Action Plan including control of road and construction dust, garbage burning, control of power plants and industrial emissions and entry of vehicles. The decision was also taken to ensure the closure of brick kilns, hot mix plants, stone crushers, intensification of public transport, sprinkling of water and mechanised sweeping of roads, ban on construction and use of pet coke.
It was also directed that furnace oil should be fully implemented and respective implementing agencies held accountable. (AIR News)
