March 24, 2018: RJD President and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to 14 years in jail in the fourth fodder scam case. A special CBI court in Ranchi today awarded him a 7-year imprisonment under Indian Penal Code and another 7 years under Prevention of Corruption Act. The court also imposed 60 lakh rupees as fine.
The court was pronouncing the quantum of punishment for all the 19 convicts in the case. All the convicts were present through video conferencing. The case relates to fraudulent withdrawals of over 3 crore rupees from December 1995 to January 1996 from the Dumka treasury.
The court had, on Monday, convicted Lalu Prasad after finding him guilty on the charges of conspiracy and corruption in the case. The RJD Chief is already serving a jail term in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail since last December after his conviction in three other fodder scam cases. (AIR News)
