ProMASS News Bureau: Jan 22, 2016:
In Nepal three persons have been killed and five others injured in police firing at Rangeli Bazaar in Morang district of South East region. The dead include a 60 year old woman. Tensions flared up in this Terai region city after United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres attempted to disrupt a programme organised by ruling Communist Party’s youth wing. Police fired shots in the air and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the crowd. The situation in the area continues to be tense.
India has expressed deep concern at the incident. Ministry of External Affairs said the political problems in Nepal require political solution. Notably, Madhesis, largely of Indian-origin, have been agitating for months in southern Nepal districts to oppose the new Constitution that divides the country into six federal provinces. Madhesis claim that the federal structure incorporated in the new charter does not satisfy their demands.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Parliament has begun clause-wise discussion on the Bill on First Amendment of Constitution of Nepal. The Parliament for last few weeks had been delaying the discussion waiting for an agreement between the major political parties and the agitating United Democratic.
