ProMASS, Nov 01, 2016: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exhorted the people of Haryana to take a pledge to save girl child and eradicate female foeticide. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of formation of Haryana state at Gurugram, Mr Modi lauded the State for the resounding success of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, saying the gender ratio has improved considerably and at a quick pace.

He appealed to the people of Haryana to resolve to take the State to newer heights. Mr Modi said the State’s leaders and people should introspect on the journey covered so far and focus on the road ahead. He said today is a day to look back at the time when Haryana was formed and the aims with which the state was formed.

The Prime Minister said Haryana has contributed in so many areas even though it is a relatively small state. He said the state’s people have given their lives for the nation by serving in the armed forces.

The Prime Minister also raised the issue of open defecation, asking the Haryana government to take steps to make the state open defecation free. He also urged the Manohar Lal government to check pilferage of kerosene meant for Public Distribution System.

The Prime Minister also handed a cheque of four crore rupees to Rio Paralympic Silver medalist Deepa Malik. On the occasion, he declared 7 districts open defection free and eight district kerosene free. Mr Modi also launched Computerized functioning of Ration shops.During the event, Mr. Modi launched Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana for affordable housing in Haryana. He also released a commemorative stamp on the occasion.

He also appreciated the government for making eight districts of the state kerosene free and fixing the target to make state kerosene free by March 2017. He said that despite the gas connection and electricity supply, the consumers were being given kerosene quota, as the consumers were not taking kerosene and it was being misused.
