Feb 04, 2017: Amidst tight security arrangements, polling has begun for 117-member Punjab and 40-member Goa Assembly seats today. Polling for Amritsar Lok Sabha seat has also begun.
In a three-corner fight between ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP Alliance, Congress and AAP, nearly 2 crore voters will determine fate of 1145 candidates in Punjab. While in Goa, number of eligible voters stands at 1110884 and 251 candidates are in fray. Goa will witness a four corner electoral battle between ruling BJP, an alliance of three parties, Congress and AAP. Three parties namely Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa Suraksha Manch and Shiv Sena formed a pre-poll alliance in Goa.
In Punjab. Police administration have made elaborate arrangements including installing CCTV cameras in Polling booths for conducting free, fair and smooth polls. Special arrangements have been made for 100 critical polling stations and 5500 vulnerable areas in the State.
According news agencies, around 90 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in Goa and special surveillance mechanisms have been arranged for sensitive and vulnerable stations. Special provisions have been made available for persons with disabilities.
