Mar 31, 2017: In support of 5-point charter of demands, CPIM today hit streets with a bang in Agartala. Thousands of CPIM supporters of West District started marching towards Swami Vivekananda Stadium today since afternoon. Large presence of women and tribal youths marked today’s rally.
In a show of its strength, West Tripura District Committee of CPIM today organized a mass rally and meeting in Agartala today. Supporters of the Party raised slogans against Modi Government’s policies. Today’s rally was organized in support of 5-point demands. Among other demands, CPIM strongly protested against Modi-led Government’s policies relating to curtailment of funds for various social welfare schemes including MNREGA.
Calling for peace and tranquility among the tribal and non-tribal people, slogans were raised. Colourful flags, festoons and banners added further attraction. Large assembly of people of different sections of the society will surely boost up confidence of the CPIM party which is supposedly facing electoral challenge from emerging BJP.
Today’s rally bears a significance in the sense that it is the first ever public meeting held by the ruling party after receiving serious drubbing in Supreme Court over termination of 10323 teachers. Many experts opined, the loss of legal battle in the Apex Court will hit CPIM hard. However, if gathering is any indication of Party’s strength, today’s public gather in support of CPIM’s 5-Point demand will surely boost confidence of Left supporters. Importantly, star Campaigner of CPIM and Chief Minister will not address today’s gathering as he is out of the State. Holding such a huge gathering, in absence of the Chief Minister, may have some more Political significance.
Public meeting is yet to be started and State Secretary of CPIM Bijan Dhar will address the crowd.
