Apr 03, 2017: In Jammu & Kashmir, one CRPF jawan was killed and five others were injured after terrorists attacked their convoy near Sempora area of Panthachowk in Srinagar outskirts late afternoon today. Two civilians were also injured in the firing.
PRO CRPF Rajesh Yadav told AIR that the terrorists attacked a convoy carrying additional companies of CRPF personnel that have been called for duties during forthcoming Parliamentary bye elections for Srinagar and Anantnag constituencies this month.
Security sources said the combing operation was launched in the area to track down the attackers. No terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
CRPF spokesperson Rajesh Yadav told AIR that the militants attacked a convoy carrying additional companies of CRPF personnel that have been called for duties during forthcoming Parliamentary bye elections for Srinagar and Anantnag constituencies starting next Sunday. He said two critically among five injured personnel have been put on ventilators at Army’s Base Hospital in Srinagar.
It seems that militants have stepped up their attacks ahead of the bye elections. Last evening (April 02) one police constable was killed and over a dozen police and CRPF personnel injured in a grenade attack in old Srinagar city’s Nowhatta area. Last Saturday (April 01), three army personnel were injured in a militant attack on Army convoy on Bye Pass road in Bemina area of Srinagar city. (AIR News)
