May 12,2017: The First Nagaland Film Festival was inaugurated yesterday in Kohima by Parliamentary Secretary for Information & Public Relations, Imtikumzuk. Organized by the Department of IPR, Nagaland in collaboration with Dimapur based theatre group Dreamz Unlimited, the event was organized by the state government to promote the works of local filmmakers, while also bringing the film fraternity under a common platform to share and deliberate on films scenario in the state.
Addressing the film makers, dignitaries and the guests, Imtikumzuk expressed pride in the quality and variety of the films and documentaries produced and directed by local film makers who are also winning accolades not only in India but also in the international platform. With the changing social scenario and times, there is no question as to why films cannot be shot in this part of the world, the Chief Guest remarked. He welcomed film makers to explore the beautiful State and assured everything feasible to facilitate them. Imtikumzuk expressed confidence that the film festival would provide a space for film makers of the region to interact and engage and create a network for filmmakers to share their works, concerns and to build capacity in young filmmakers.
Also addressing the event Director IPR Limawati Ao stressed on the need to have a film policy or a nodal agency to help film promotions in the region. The Director expressed the hope that the Parliamentary Secretary IPR would take the matter forward to the Government to frame a policy for the State to facilitate and exploit young talents into film making and promote the industry further. Also, during the festival films and documentaries produced by local producers were screened. On account of the first film festival the Dreamz Unlimited Group earlier organized an Amateur Short Film Competition for Naga budding film makers, and for which awards were presented to the best three winners yesterday.
