August 20, 2017: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressed condolences and grief at the derailment of Kalinga Utkal Express in which according to agency reports, at least 23 persons were killed while several people were injured. Railway Minister on Saturday announced financial assistant for the families of accident victims.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief on Saturday over the derailment of the Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The Prime Minister said, “Extremely pained by the derailment of the Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased. I wish those injured a speedy recovery. The situation is being monitored very closely by the Railways Ministry. Railways Ministry and UP Government are doing everything possible and providing all assistance required in the wake of the train derailment”, the Prime Minister said.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi also expressed shock and grief on Saturday at the derailment of Kalinga Utkal Express. Expressing concern over growing number of rail accident, Sonia Gandhi urged Railways and State Govt to ensure speedy rescue and relief measures.
In a tweet on Saturday, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu stated, Ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for those who lost their lives, Rs 50 thousand for seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for people with minor injuries.
