Prasenjit Sarkar death case: Three including two women held
Dharmanagar: Dec 18: Tripura Police achieved a major breakthrough in the death case of delivery worker Prasenjit Sarkar by arresting the three main accused.
The arrests were made late last night from the railway station area of Sribhumi district in Assam.
The arrested accused have been identified as Susmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee, and Saurav Bhattacharjee.
Two more accused, identified as Megadip Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar, are still outside police reach.
After their arrest, the accused were initially brought to Churaibari Police Station. However, in view of growing public anger and tension surrounding the case, they were produced directly before the District and Sessions Court for security reasons.
The Court sent them to 14 days Jail Remand.
A significant crowd, including local youths of Dharmanagar and delivery workers, gathered at the court premises.
To prevent any untoward incident, a large contingent of police personnel was deployed in and around the court.
The North District Additional Superintendent of Police was present at the spot. The case was heard by Chief Judicial Magistrate Debolina Kilikdar.
Sources said that in view of the mounting public outrage, the accused may be sent directly to judicial custody from the court. Anger continues to simmer across the area, with people demanding justice in connection with the death of Prasenjit Sarkar.
Prasenjit Sarkar (23), a delivery worker with Blue Dart in Dharmanagar, was found on December 14 after an alleged incident of humiliation and assault linked to an online delivery dispute.
The accused five individuals were involved in physically assaulting Sarkar and capture the whole thing in their mobile phones. The clips were later posted in social media, unfortunately the clips became viral allegedly leading to Sarkar’s death.

However, local people raised serious concerns and held marches demanding ‘Justice for Prasenjit Sarkar’.
On December 17, common people gathered in front of the Dharmanagar police station venting their anger as no accused persons were held till then.
Police, however, assured agitators regarding the arrest and police managed to nab three of the five accused individuals. (Updated)
