October 02,2017: The nation offers homage to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 148th birth anniversary today. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Senior BJP leader L K Advani and other dignitaries visited Rajghat and paid homage to the Father of the nation.

An all religion prayer was also organised at Rajghat. A series of functions are planned to mark the occasion.
An Inter-Faith Prayer Meeting will be organized by Ministry of Culture at Gandhi Smriti. Renowned Singer Pandit Madhup Mudgal will present Bhakti Sangeet.
In his message, President Ram Nath Kovind has said, Gandhi Jayanti is an occasion to rededicate to the ideals and values of Mahatma Gandhi. He said, Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and peaceful co-existence is of increasing relevance in present times.
Mr Kovind said, Gandhi believed that Cleanliness is next to Godliness and visualised cleanliness as having three dimensions- a clean mind, a clean body and clean surroundings.

He said, achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission expeditiously will be a true expression of tribute and regard to Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that noble ideals of Mahatma Gandhi motivate millions across the world.
Fortnight long ‘Swachhata hi Sewa’ campaign will also conclude today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a function to mark the 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission. On the occasion, Mr Modi will also give away the Swachhata awards. (AIR NEWS)
