Kailashahar (Tripura), Dec 25: A wave of relief swept across Unakoti district of Tripura after 24 missing teenagers and youths from the Chandipur Assembly constituency were safely traced and rescued from Arunachal Pradesh.

Unakoti Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R disclosed the details of the successful operation during a press conference on Wednesday.

According to the SP, the case was taken up on priority after a missing persons complaint was lodged at Kailashahar police station last Tuesday (December 23).

An FIR was immediately registered and a special investigation team was formed. Technical surveillance, including mobile phone location tracking, indicated that the group had been moved to the Belang police station jurisdiction in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Acting swiftly on the leads, the Unakoti district police coordinated with their counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh and launched a joint rescue operation.

The SP said the mission was executed smoothly following direct coordination at the top level between Tripura Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar (IPS) and Arunachal Pradesh DGP Anand Mohan (IPS).

As a result of the coordinated effort, the Arunachal Pradesh Police successfully located and rescued all 24 missing youths.

They are currently under police protection, and necessary legal procedures are underway.

A Police team will leave for Arunachal on December 26 to bring them back to Tripura at the earliest.
