A resident of Tripura, Ananya Sen was selected to deliver an English lecture on the life and ideals of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya at the Sansad Bhavan in New Delhi, and her presentation left a lasting impression.

Through her address, Ananya painted a haunting picture of life under colonial rule, urging listeners to imagine a reality where textbooks were banned, independent thought was criminalised and families lived under the constant threat of midnight arrests.

Her narrative questioned the true meaning of freedom and emphasised that liberty is not a privilege granted, but a right earned through sacrifice and struggle.

She then turned the spotlight on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, describing him as a towering nationalist, journalist, statesman, lawyer, educationist and scholar of Indian culture. Ananya recalled how Malaviya relinquished a successful legal career to dedicate himself fully to the service of the nation and the cause of education, driven by a vision for a sovereign and enlightened India.

Highlighting his reformist legacy, she spoke of Malaviya’s advocacy for women’s education, his role in social reforms, his efforts to uphold India’s cultural identity through Devanagari in courts, and his commitment to preserving the free flow of the Ganga.

She also underlined his historic contribution in founding Banaras Hindu University, an institution that seamlessly blended modern scientific learning with India’s civilisational ethos.

Ananya further recalled Pandit Malaviya’s moral resolve during the Chauri Chaura episode, when he stood by 156 freedom fighters facing death sentences, refusing personal safety or compromise.

According to her, Malaviya’s life was a living embodiment of “Satyamev Jayate,” inspiring generations to stand by truth, unity and national service.

Concluding her lecture, Ananya reminded the gathering that freedom is a continuous responsibility that every generation must protect. Her final salute of “Jai Hind, Jai Bharat,” delivered with confidence and pride, resonated through Sansad Bhavan and earned her a standing ovation.

Draped in the traditional tribal colours of Tripura and armed with a powerful message, Ananya Sen emerged not just as a student speaker, but as a symbol of India’s diverse cultural soul and the rising voice of a new, conscious generation.
