Mortal Remains of Angel Chakma Reach Home
Agartala Dec 27: The mortal remains of Angel Chakma, a 24-year-old student from Tripura who died after a fatal assault in Dehradun, reached his home in the state on Saturday (December 27).
In the attack, Angel’s brother, Michael Chakma, a student at another university in Uttrakhand, alleged that he was struck on the head with a metal ‘kada’ during the assault.
Uttrakhand Police arrested five culprits, so far in this connection. The accused persons were sent to the judicial custody.
The incident has triggered statewide outrage, with political leaders and student organisations calling for strict punishment for those responsible.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to discuss the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack on Angel Chakma, officials said.
Angel Chakma, the son of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable, succumbed to his injuries early Friday morning (December 26) after battling for life following the attack that occurred on December 9 in Dehradun.
During the telephonic conversation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami informed CM Dr Saha that five accused have been arrested in connection with the case and that the investigation is progressing.
In a statement shared on social media, CM Saha said he discussed the tragic death of Angel Chakma, a resident of Nandanagar under Debram Thakur Para in Tripura, who was severely assaulted in Dehradun and later died at Graphic Era Hospital.
The Tripura Chief Minister said his Uttarakhand counterpart assured him that justice would be delivered through a thorough and time-bound investigation.
Angel Chakma was pursuing higher education at a university in Uttarakhand when he suffered critical injuries in what family members have described as a racially motivated attack.
According to relatives in Agartala, the incident occurred on the evening of December 9 in the Selaqui area of Dehradun.
A formal police complaint was lodged by Angel’s brother, Michael Chakma, soon after the incident.

The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party—an ally of the BJP-led government in Tripura—expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and demanded swift justice.
In a statement, the organisation urged authorities to conduct a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to ensure accountability.
Tipra Motha Party founder and supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma also expressed deep grief and anger, asserting that those responsible for the heinous crime must be identified and punished without delay.
Angel Chakma’s death has led to widespread condemnation across Tripura, with political leaders, student bodies and civil society groups demanding exemplary punishment and justice for the victim.
