Agartala Jan 23: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, today launched major development works in the state.
The Projects
Five projects worth Rs 270 crore were inaugurated. Foundation stones were laid for three more projects costing Rs 95 crore – total Rs 365 crore. The programmes were launched on the occasion of Basant Panchami.
The projects focus on improving road connectivity, expanding power access, and strengthening livelihoods in tribal and remote areas of Tripura.
Key projects launched on the day include the 14-km Jatanbari–Mandirghat–Tirthamukh road. The road will improve access to villages, markets, schools, and hospitals. The 8-km Gandacherra–Raishyabari–Narikel Kunja road was also inaugurated.
It will connect tribal habitations with district headquarters. Several PMGSY road projects were taken up to link interior and hilly areas.
Solar Micro-Grid projects under PM-DevINE were also launched. These projects will provide clean and reliable electricity to remote habitations. They are expected to support education, healthcare, and small businesses.
After the programme, Scindia and Chief Minister Manik Saha visited two PM-DevINE healthcare projects in Agartala. These include the Agartala Government Dental College building.
The project aims to strengthen dental education and public oral healthcare. They also visited the Maternal and Child Health wing at AGMC and GBP Hospital. The facility will enhance maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare services.

He said the efforts align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the North Eastern Region.
Under the Centre’s policy of allocating 10 per cent of Gross Budgetary Support to the region, over Rs 6.5 lakh crore has been invested in the eight North Eastern states in the last decade.
The investment has boosted infrastructure, economic growth, and employment.
The Union Minister highlighted Tripura’s progress over the past ten years. Broad-gauge railway connectivity has now reached Sabroom.
The state’s road network has expanded from about 850 km to more than 1,550 km.
Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been upgraded. It can now handle nearly three million passengers every year.
Tripura has also become a power-surplus state. Its installed capacity stands at around 1,000 MW.
Scindia hails CM

He added that Tripura should emerge as a gateway not only to the North East but also to South-East Asia. Guwahati and Tripura, he said, will be developed as international connectivity hubs to boost trade and tourism.

Officials said these initiatives, along with ongoing projects in tourism, industry, and social infrastructure, will strengthen Tripura’s role as a key hub in the North East. The efforts will also contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
