Tripura Student Brutally Assaulted by Live-in Partner in Gurugram, Accused Held
Agartala Feb 23: A 19-year-old student from Tripura was allegedly confined, burned, and sexually assaulted by her live-in partner at a rented flat Gurugram.
While the victim is undergoing treatment at hospital, Police arrested the accused after receiving the information.
Recalling the horrifying episode, the victimโs mother narrated the brutal incident to the Asian News International (ANI).
Victim’s mother said she received a distress call from her daughter on February 16. According to an ANI X Post, her daughter described days of physical torture, sexual assault, and repeated threats to her life.
The mother alleged that the accused had locked her inside a room and subjected her to brutal abuse.
According to ANI, an FIR has been registered against the accused, identified as Shivam, for allegedly pouring sanitiser on the victim, setting her on fire, and recording a video of the act.
The complaint, based on the victimโs statement, states that he established a physical relationship with her under the false promise of marriage and repeatedly assaulted her.
The injured woman is currently undergoing treatment at a Hospital.
Quoting Gurugram Police, ANI reported that the victimโs family alerted authorities after learning about the assault. Police teams immediately reached the location, rescued the woman, and ensured she received medical care. She was hospitalized and her condition is stated to be stable.
The accused, a 19-year-old resident of Narela in Delhi, was arrested soon after the incident. Based on the written complaint, police have invoked stringent charges, including rape and other relevant offences under Sections 115, 118(1), 118(2), 127(2), 69 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), ANI X post revealed.
“After being taken into police custody and questioned, the accused was produced before a court following the completion of his remand and was subsequently sent to judicial custody. He is currently lodged in jail”, the post read.
Police said a detailed investigation is underway. Preliminary findings indicate that the accused and the victim had known each other since September 2025.

Officials added that some of the charges are subject to medical opinion, as required by law, and that additional sections may be added based on the final medical report and doctorsโ assessment. The initial charges were framed on the basis of injuries noted in the Medico-Legal Report (MLR).
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to assaulting the victim. Police have assured that the probe will be expedited and that they will seek the strictest possible punishment against the accused in court.
