Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu launches the NPST and NMM rollout in Agartala. Discover how Tripura is leading the way in teacher professional standards.
Agartala Mar 20: In a major leap for the state’s pedagogical standards, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Kunjaban, alongwith the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), successfully launched a state-level capacity-building programme this Thursday (March 19).
The event signaled the official regional rollout of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and the National Mentoring Mission (NMM)—two pillars of the NEP 2020 designed to professionalize teaching and institutionalize mentorship across Tripura’s schools and colleges.
Around 180 participants attended the programme. They included principals, teachers, officials, and academic leaders. They came from universities, IASE, CTES, DIETs, and CBSE and state-affiliated schools.
At the outset, Dr. Ratna Roy welcomed the gathering. She explained the importance of NPST and NMM.

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, attending as the Chief Guest at Pragna Bhavan, emphasized that the success of “Viksit Bharat” rests on the shoulders of empowered educators.
The workshop drew a diverse cohort of 180 academic leaders, ranging from University faculty to DIET and CBSE school principals, all of whom transitioned to the NIELIT campus at Bodhjungnagar for hands-on technical training in the afternoon.
News Analysis: A Shift from Tenure to Talent
This collaboration marks a departure from traditional “one-size-fits-all” teacher training. By introducing the NPST framework in Tripura, the state is moving toward a merit-based professional trajectory for educators.
Historically, teacher progression in the Northeast has often been hindered by a lack of standardized professional benchmarks.
The integration of the NPST digital portal and the NMM mentoring system suggests that Tripura is positioning itself as an early adopter of data-driven teacher evaluation, which could significantly narrow the gap between state-run institutions and national excellence standards.
Stakeholder Synergy and Technical Integration
The inaugural session featured high-level endorsements via video from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jayant Chaudhary, Vikas Gupta, and Prof. Pankaj Arora addressed the participants.
They stressed capacity building and strong mentoring systems.
After that, D.K. Chaturvedi outlined the vision and rollout plan of NPST and NMM. Meanwhile, L. Darlong highlighted the role of state institutions.

In addition, Animesh Debbarma stressed the need for continuous professional growth among teachers.
The transition to the NIELIT labs provided a practical edge to the workshop, where participants moved beyond theory to navigate the NPST digital ecosystem.
Finally, Niladri Das and D.K. Chaturvedi chaired the valedictory session. Speakers summed up the key outcomes of the programme.
This hands-on approach ensures that the “nationwide rollout” isn’t just a policy on paper but a functional tool for the 180 stakeholders present.
