Agartala, April 9: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha delivered a high-decibel campaign speech today, promising a total structural overhaul for development and prosperity of Janajati in Tripura’s ADC areas.

Speaking at an election rally in Behalabari, located within the Halhali–Asharambari constituency, Dr. Saha framed the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls as a choice between grounded leadership and “extravagant” politics.

With the crucial polling date of April 12 approaching, the Chief Minister urged the tribal electorate to vote with unity.

He asserted that only a BJP-led administration in the ADC can synchronize with the Central Government’s developmental vision.

The ‘Helicopter’ Critique: BJP vs. Tipra Motha

In a sharp rhetorical turn, Dr. Saha targeted the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) leadership without naming them directly. He drew a vivid contrast between the campaigning styles of the two major contenders.

“The BJP is the world’s largest political party, yet our leaders reach you by car or train,” Dr. Saha told the gathered crowd.

He questioned how leaders claiming to represent the poor could justify “extensively using helicopters” for their campaign movements.

The Chief Minister didn’t stop at the visual contrast. He raised serious allegations regarding the financial backing of such high-cost electioneering.

He alleged that these funds likely come from “money looted from the poor.”

He further warned that state authorities remain vigilant and aware of the specific sources funding these luxury campaigns.

Focus on ‘Responsive Governance’

Central to Dr. Saha’s address was the concept of “responsive governance.” He argued that the TTAADC has long suffered from leadership that remains detached from the grassroots.

  • Empathy for the Poor: The CM emphasized that the ADC needs administrators who truly grasp the struggles of economically weaker sections.
  • Modi’s Vision: He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal commitment to the Janajati (tribal) communities, citing various central schemes tailored for tribal welfare.
  • Political Relevance: Taking a final swipe at the opposition, Saha predicted that the “Motha” would lose its political relevance once the results are declared on April 17.

The 2026 TTAADC elections represent a pivotal moment in Tripura’s political history.

Historically, the ADC—covering two-thirds of the state’s geographical area—was a stronghold for the Left Front before the Tipra Motha’s meteoric rise in 2021.

By attacking the “helicopter culture,” Dr. Saha is attempting to flip the narrative of “tribal identity” into one of “class struggle.”

The BJP’s strategy focuses on highlighting the elite class attitude of the TMP leadership that has distanced itself from the very “poor villagers” they claim to protect.

This shift from identity politics to governance-based criticism marks a significant evolution in the state’s electoral discourse.
