Agartala August 20: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha has called for a broader approach to women empowerment. He stressed that safety must go hand in hand with education, skill development and economic self-reliance.

The Chief Minister also called for greater public awareness to protect the rights and welfare of women and children. He highlighted child marriage, substance abuse and cyber threats as areas that require sustained social intervention.

Dr. Saha made the remarks while chairing separate meetings with the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Tripura State Commission for Women at the State Secretariat on Thursday.

CM Calls for Social Awareness

Dr. Saha said administrative action alone cannot solve deep-rooted social problems. He stressed the need to change social attitudes through continuous awareness campaigns.

The Chief Minister called for regular seminars, workshops and other public programmes. Dr Saha also suggested using creative methods, including drama, to communicate social messages more effectively.

The Chief Minister asked officials to identify problems affecting women and children at the local level. He stressed timely intervention and counselling wherever necessary.

He also called for greater participation from prominent citizens, academics, social workers and intellectuals. Women from self-help groups should also take part in awareness campaigns, he said.

Focus on Child Marriage and Cyber Safety

The meeting placed emphasis on preventing child marriage. It also discussed awareness against substance abuse.

Cybersecurity emerged as another major area of concern. Dr. Saha called for regular awareness programmes on cyber safety. He particularly stressed the need to educate women about online risks and digital security.

The Chief Minister said social awareness must keep pace with emerging threats. He urged stakeholders to take preventive measures instead of relying only on action after incidents occur.

Skill Development for Children in Homes

Dr. Saha also reviewed the situation of children staying in different homes across the state.

He stressed the importance of education, proper care and skill development for these children. The aim should be to help them become self-reliant and establish themselves in society in the future.

The Chief Minister called for creating opportunities that can improve their confidence and employability. Skill-based education, he said, can help vulnerable children build independent lives.

Women Empowerment Through Skills

The Chief Minister placed particular emphasis on economic empowerment.

He said women need access to education and skills along with protection and security. Skill training can help women become financially independent and participate more actively in society and the economy.

The approach also seeks to connect more women with economic activities and strengthen their role in the mainstream workforce.
