Agartala, August 20: Tripura has received praise from NITI Aayog for its progress in implementing development projects across the state.
NITI Aayog Member Dr. Juram Ania described the progress as significant and commendable among the states of Northeast India. She also assured central support for several sectors, including tourism, sports and infrastructure.
Dr. Ania made the remarks while chairing a review meeting on the progress of development works undertaken by various state government departments at the Secretariat on Thursday.
NITI Aayog Backs Tripura Development
Dr. Ania said NITI Aayog would work with Tripura to remove obstacles affecting development projects.
She specifically highlighted Unakoti tourism. The policy body will support efforts to address existing barriers and promote further development of the tourism destination.
Dr. Ania also highlighted the formation of the Tripura Institute of Technology as an example for other northeastern states. She said NITI Aayog would support the proposed establishment of a gymnastics institute in Tripura.
She credited Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha for effectively presenting the concerns and demands of Tripura at central-level NITI Aayog meetings.
According to Dr. Ania, this has helped speed up the implementation of several projects in the state.
She said NITI Aayog would extend all possible support to maintain the pace of development. She also called for better coordination among departments to ensure faster and effective implementation.
Tripura Seeks Better Connectivity
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha sought central support for improving national highways and speeding up road repairs in the state.
He also called for better rail and air connectivity. Expansion and improvement of telecommunications infrastructure also featured among the states demands.
Sinha said industrial investors have shown interest in investing more than Rs 1 lakh crore in Tripura.
He stressed that reliable roads, railways, airports and telecommunication networks will be critical if the state is to attract and support such investments.
The Chief Secretary also urged NITI Aayog to help Tripura formulate a strong policy framework to support its development needs.
Departments Present Sector-Wise Progress
Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Good Governance, Public Works and Health departments, briefed Dr. Ania on development plans aimed at building a developed Tripura.

Education Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke presented details of the states education infrastructure and measures to improve education quality. He also outlined initiatives taken to prevent child marriage.
Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma presented details of development work at tourist destinations. He also placed several proposals before NITI Aayog to accelerate tourism development.
Youth Affairs and Sports Secretary Tapas Roy discussed the current sports infrastructure in Tripura. He also highlighted infrastructure development and achievements by athletes at national and international levels.
NITI Aayog Supports Plastic Recycling
NITI Aayog Managing Director Anupam Lahiri assured the state of appropriate support for its development initiatives.
He praised Tripura for its pineapple and rubber production. Lahiri also stressed the need to promote plastic recycling industries in the state.
He said NITI Aayog would extend support for efforts to establish and develop plastic recycling industries in Tripura.
Secretaries from various state government departments attended the review meeting.
