January 13, 2018: BJP has accused the Congress of trying to take political mileage out of controversy triggered by the Press Conference of four senior-most Judges of the Supreme Court. Reacting to Congress’ remarks on the issue, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, this is an internal matter of the Supreme Court and no politics should be played.
The Congress had said that observations made by the Judges are extremely disturbing and have a far-reaching consequence for safeguarding democracy and preserving the independence of judiciary. Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had demanded that the full Court of the Supreme Court should take up the issues raised by the Judges and find solutions.
Earlier in the day, four sitting senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, Justice J. Chelameswar along with Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph held a joint press conference in New Delhi and questioned the administration of the Apex Court.
They said that sometimes undesirable things have happened in the Apex Court administration in last few months. They also released a letter to the media. In the letter addressed to Chief Justice of India (CJI), the Judges complained against the selective assignment of cases by the CJI to selective Benches for no apparent reason.
Meanwhile, Attorney General KK Venugopal said that the press conference by the four Supreme Court Judges could have been avoided. He said the Supreme Court judges are all statesman with vast experience and knowledge, and I am sure that the entire issue will get resolved by today. (AIR News)
