March 28, 2018: Centre has asked West Bengal government to submit a report on incidents of arson and violence during Ram Navami processions in the state during the past two days.
Officials said, Union Home Ministry has also offered assistance of paramilitary forces in the light of reports of continuing violence and tension in some districts of the state.
BJP MP from Asansol, Babul Supriyo has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government of destroying communal harmony by practising “appeasement politics.” Mr Supriyo also called on Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and apprised him of the situation in Raniganj.
A clash broke out between two groups over a Ram Navami procession in Raniganj on Monday.
A person was allegedly hacked to death while a Deputy Commissioner of Police lost a hand after getting hit by a bomb. Several shops and houses were also vandalised and set ablaze. (AIR News)
