April 02, 2018: Bharat Bandha called to protest against ‘dilution’ of the existing SC/STs Act, several Dalit organizations have hit life in various parts of India. However, Bandh has reportedly ‘no impact’ in Mumbai.
Sources claimed, violence broke out in several Bandh hit states. Economic Times reported one person died in Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile AIR News reported, the Union Government today filed a review petition in the Supreme Court over its recent ruling on the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
AIR News further reported, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that government is committed to the progress of Dalits. He said the opposition is politicising the issue. In its order, the apex court had recently introduced the provision of anticipatory bail in the Act while directing that there will be no automatic arrest on any complaint filed under the law.
