July 16, 2018: Professor Dr. V.L. Dharurkar (64), a scholar and an acclaimed author as well as a well known figure in the fields of Mass communication and journalism, History, liberal arts and sciences is going to take over the charge of the Tripura University (A central University) as Vice Chancellor on July 16, 2018.
Till recently he was HoD UDMCJ, Director of Academic Staff College. Hon’ble President of India Ramnath Kovind has appointed him for the coveted position.
Dr. Dharurkar is an eminent educationalist and scholar Marathwada region. He hails from Omerga, District, Osmanabad from Marathwada. Despite the economically backwardness of this geographical location where he was born and brought up, Dr Dharurkar rose to nationwide eminence in academia and literary fields for his sheer brilliance, commitment, dedication and perseverance.
His career and achievement are outstanding. Dr. Dharurkar started his academic career from Bitco college of Nashik from 1975- 1976 as a lecturer of history. Then he was selected in the department of Journalism, at Shivaji University, Kolhapur as a lecturer where he held the position of HOD of that department. In 1982 Dr. Dharurkar joined as lecturer at Aurangabad’s UDMCJ, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.
In Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad Dr. Dharurkar taught students of mass communication and journalism and held the position of HoD.
He is master in many subjects. His students, researchers have been fully impressed by his knowledge and his sharp mind. He was professor and HOD of Mass Communication & Journalism Department, at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. After this he joined as a Director of School of Liberal Arts and ‘UGC Emeritus Professor’ from 2016 to till 2019.
Dr Dharurkar has published 27 books in Marathi and five (5) in English and of them three books are related to media.
Dr Dharurkar has in his credit as many as 253 papers published in International Level Seminars and Conferences. Besides he has got 181 research papers in National Level Seminars and Conferences published. In State and regional levels seminars and conferences the no is more than 300.
He has delivered expert Lectures on various topics at places like Kolhapur, Goa, Nashik, Ahmednagar etc. He speaks English, Hindi and Marathi fluently and well versed with other Indian Languages such as Marathi (Ahirani), Kannada, and Telugu.
He has worked as a Member of Senate, Academic Council and Board of University Planning and Development.
Dr Dharurkar has been honored with the UGC Career Award as Young Scientist for a project on “Mass Communication Potentials of Folk Media in Maharashtra” in 1994. He has completed a major research project of UGC on the topic “I. T. Application for Rural Development”. He has published a book on the same.
Under his able guidance, 29 students completed Ph.D. in Mass Communication & Journalism among them six (6) were from YCMOU Nasik, five (5) were from NMU Jalgaon, SRTMU Nanded.
He is associated with a number of educational institutes and has been advising them for excellence in the field of Education. A member of the local Governing council of Mahatma Gandhi Mission‟s, Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College, Aurangabad as well as many premier institutes from India and abroad also.
Dr Dharurkar is the recipient of prestigious “The Jain Vidyabhushan Award” in 2009. The book, ‘Ellora Jain caves’ was published in 3rd International Jain Conference in 1985 and Jain Manjiri, Canada, 2008.
Dr Dharurkar’s Research papers have been published in international reputed journals like Cajac Review, Waste Management Journal, USA and Theory Culture society, UK.
He has been awarded the best research paper in Management Conference organized by Mumbai University in December 2008.
He has also the recipient of “Life Time Achievement award” which was given by Bombay Journalist Association as a pioneering professor in Journalism since 2002. He was also awarded with ‘Marathwada Ratna Puraskar’.
Dr Dharurkar’s name was included in 1000 Cambridge intellectuals of the millennium and included in 500 Harvard Social Scientists of Asia. His name is also included in the Who‟s Who in the World.
His name has been included in 100 best educators of 2007 enlisted by IBC Cambridge.
He is also the recipient of Plato Award in 2008. He has crossed 64 but still possesses a great enthusiasm for teaching and positive attitude towards life. END.
