July 20, 2018: No Confidence Motion against govt defeated in LokSabha; While 126 member supported no-confidence motion, 325 voted against it. After a 12-hour long debates and speeches by leaders of ruling and Opposition parties, the No Trust motion against the Government was defeated easily.
AIR News reports: Participating in the debate on the motion, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the opposition is not able to understand the faith people reposed in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, after 30 years, a government with the full majority was formed under the leadership of Mr. Modi in 2014. The Minister said, the continuous victories of BJP in assembly elections shows the trust of people in the Prime Minister’s leadership.
Mr Singh said, Mr Modi has raised India’s stature globally and now it is being recognised as the most attractive destination for investment.
Talking about incidents of mob lynching, the Home Minister said, states have also been asked to make stringent laws on the issue. In an apparent reference to opposition attack on the government over such incidents, Mr Singh said, the biggest case of mob lynching happened during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
He also assured the people of Andhra Pradesh of providing all assistance and support for the development of the state.
Earlier, participating in the discussion, Congress President Rahul Gandhi accused the NDA government of giving only lofty promises to people.
Mr Gandhi questioned the Government for not revealing the details related to purchase of Rafale aircraft.
Taking part in the debate, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rejected the Congress President’s allegation related to the Rafale deal. She cited a secrecy agreement signed during UPA rule in 2008 saying, the details of the deal cannot be divulged under this pact.
