Even as Tripura battling against raging coronavirus, Pradesh Congress threatened to call State wide Bandh unless proper actions were taken against miscreants involved in ‘attack’ on former Pradesh Congress chief Birajit Sinha. In a press conference, incumbent Pradesh Congress president Pijush Biswas said that a meeting would be convened to decide over future course of action including giving State wide strike call.
On Wednesday, leaders of Tripura Pradesh Congress vehemently condemned ‘attack’ on former Pradesh Congress Chief Birajit Sinha. Congress supporters held a demonstration seeking justice in front of Agartala West Police Station.
Sources said, miscreants attacked Birajit Sinha’s vehicle on Tuesday while he was on his way to his home town Kailashahar. The incident occurred at Dasharampara area under Ranir Bazar near Agartala. It was reported miscreants had thrown pelted stones on his vehicles damaging the window-screens. In the attack, Personal Guard of Sinha was reportedly injured but Sinha was unhurt. A formal complaint was lodged with the police against the miscreants.
State Congress leadership took the attack seriously and started agitation demanding punitive actions against the miscreants. As the Congress activists started demonstration, SDPO Sadar held talks with the agitators and assured them that he would inform the higher authorities about the issue to get them justice.
Speaking at a press conference, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Pijush Biswas narrated the attack and alleged, “Birajit Sinha could have died. He just narrowly escaped.” He added that a meeting would be held by Pradesh Congress on August 29 to decide the day of a state wide strike. Biswas continued, “We will not tolerate getting beaten repeatedly, we will take democratic actions. We will continue our protests till August 29.”
Biswas also said, “ADC and Municipal elections must be held soon and we will maintain pressure until they take place.” PCC Vice President Tapas Dey and Harekrishna Bhowmik among others were present in the press meet.
